Hey dinos! Sorry I slowed down on making posts. Ever since I had to rebuild my website from the ground up because of a mistake I made when signing up for odoo, I lost that drive to make constant posts, but maybe with this one I'll finally get back into it.
Anyway, I'm sitting here at the time of writing, going through the docs for the Godot game engine, learning how to make video games.
I just randomly one day thought "fuck it", and decided I'd give it a shot and see if game design is for me. And you know what? I'm having a blast so far. The tutorials for Godot and the engine itself seem super beginner friendly, and I'm not as intimidated by scripting as I thought I would be! I always thought I would never have the patience or intelligence to get into stuff like this, but with my recent mindset shift and seeing how far I've come in writing and art, and knowing how much more adaptable I am to new things now, I can finally say I have the confidence to learn this stuff!
One of the big reasons I wanna make games is because I've been brainstorming ideas for my own fan-made Sonic game. I've been getting deep into the gameplay, controls, physics, story, characters, and all that and I really think over time I might actually be able to get something going. Although I think while I'll start off making this a Sonic fan game, using those assets as placeholders, I think eventually I want to turn this into my own IP with original characters and assets.
The working title is Sonic Illumination, but I'm thinking of just calling it Project Vega. I'll make another post about this game later I think, but for the sake of this post I wanted to talk about my idea for my first game.
I go into more about Project Vega in this video.
So I've been thinking about how the most bottom of the barrel dogshit games can get added to and even purchased from Steam by literally anybody, and it made me realize that if I can make my own game then I can do the same thing.
I was thinking of making a game called ZealotPara Pinball... or something.
I want to create a Pinball game from the ground up so I can get a deep understanding for how the game works, because a lot of my ideas and design philosophies for Project Vega actually revolve around the idea of Pinball.
I think it'd be cool if all the art and assets for ZealotPara Pinball were drawn by me, however crude they may be. I don't just wanna pump out garbage and throw it on Steam for a quick buck though, I want to make the best possible game I can because I believe in authenticity and just not being lazy with art.
I have no idea how long it'll take me to even get close to knowing how to make something like this, I want to get a deep understanding of physics and collision and whatever else would go into making this game before I release it, at least on Steam anyway, maybe I'll put out early demos for playtesters.
I recommend this video by Pariah695. It opened my eyes to how Sonic was influenced by Pinball, and it made my imagination run wild for how that design philosophy could be integrated into a fully 3D Sonic platformer game! (Project Vega).
Anyways, I think that's everything I wanted to say, back to learning game design!
Hear me out, "ZealotPara Pinball"...
